Welcome to Class 2
Hello, we are Year 2. We are taught by Miss Young. We are sometimes taught by Mrs Wilkinson.
We are enjoying learning through continuous provision in Year 2. Our classroom is split in to lots of different areas with different activities in each. We can choose which activities we complete throughout the day. Our favourite areas are the construction, art and role play areas.
We are learning reading skills by practising phonics every day. We follow letters and sounds. We use the Rising Stars reading scheme. These can be accessed online at home. There is a guide at the bottom to help if needed.
In Year 2 we love maths! We are following the White Rose scheme of learning. This helps us to learn our maths in small steps. This means we build on our learning when we are ready to do so. We practise fluency every day. This means we practise our number bonds, times tables and counting forwards and backwards every day. We also use Times Tables Rockstars and we all have our own log in.
We are very lucky in Year 2 because Miss Young is training to become a forest school leader. This means we get to have forest school sessions every week. Whilst she is training we get to explore and learn in nature, but soon she will be able to teach us how to use tools safely and we will be able to have a fire to cook on.
Our homework is set for us each week on Google Classroom. We are expected to complete a maths job, practise our spellings and to read at least 3 times a week at home.
If you have any questions about Year 2 you can email Miss Young. Her email address is m.young@collierleyprimary.co.uk
Here are some ideas to help support your child at home;
Read, read read! Ask your child questions about what they are reading.
Practise numberbonds and times tables. Ask your child questions throughout the day.
Play ‘Hit the Button’. This is an excellent game online to help your child practise number facts.
Phonics Play is a fantastic website to support phonics learning. It does cost to access it, but you can get a free trial.
