Year 5

Welcome to Class 5

Hello, our class is made up of  Year 5  pupils.  Our teacher is Mrs Carter.  Mrs Wilkinson teaches us every Tuesday.

We are excited to be in upper Key Stage 2 and we all get on very well.

This half term we have been getting used to being back in the classroom and we are using EV3 robots to help with team work as well as learning programming. We are lucky to have a large classroom, but if we want even more space, we can use the hall. The hall is where we have our music lessons as well as PE …and computing at the minute.

We also use Accelerated Reader, Lexia and Times Tables Rockstars to help our learning.

Homework

Google Classroom

Google Classroom - Wikipedia

All of the children have their own Google Classroom log in accounts. It means they can access and complete their homework online.

It’s not just homework that can be done on Classroom – help sheets and extra ideas appear there too!

Reading: Your child should aim to read every day and with an adult 3x per week. Please sign the homework diary on these occasions.

How to best support your child with their reading:

  • discuss meaning of challenging vocabulary
  • ask your child questions about what they’ve read
  • make predictions

Spelling: The children will have a list of ‘tricky’ words to learn each week, through a variety of strategies. They should practise these in their spelling home learning books and will be tested on the words regularly during the following week.

Maths: One piece per week, relating to key expectations.  Encourage your child to use maths apps such as; it is a fun way for your child to practice and develop their key skills.

How to best support your child in maths:

  • use the method shown on the home learning sheet
  • regularly practice times tables (up to 12x), number bonds and telling the time

Occasional home learning:

  • topic – geography, history or D&T
  • science
  • grammar
