Curriculum Content

This section of the website is focused on providing an overview of the Collierley Primary School Curriculum.  We have given (and continue to give) a great deal of thought to the provision at our school with regular reviews to ensure we are meeting our intent statement as well as the needs of the children.

Following a review due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the children will be following a recovery curriculum. Foundation subjects will be introduced gradually with the focus being entirely on the children’s wellbeing. The whole school overview for this academic year is available here:

School Long Term Plan 2020-2021

Our intent statement is as follows:

To develop well-rounded individuals, prepared for the future with the knowledge, skills and understanding attained through a knowledge and skills based, supportive curriculum focussing on the emotional, mental and cultural well-being of all.

The National Curriculum is key to providing the core knowledge for all our pupils to become educated citizens.  It creates an appreciation of human creativity and achievement which inspires our pupils to learn and accomplish success.   In order to do this, the intent of our curriculum at Collierley Primary is to ensure all children make progress from their individual starting points; to ensure all children develop a love of learning and to ensure our community grows with us.  In addition, we want our children to develop the relevant skills and knowledge, which they can transfer across different subjects within the curriculum.  Our children come to school with different life experiences, which impacts on their vocabulary, reasoning and understanding throughout all Key Stages.  A wide and appropriate vocabulary leads to success and at Collierley the intent is to put vocabulary at the heart of the knowledge we teach across all subjects and Key Stages.  We intend to provide a wealth of experiences to improve learning outside the classroom and to create links between learning and fun for our children, such as theatre experiences, a book illustrator visit, sports competitions, outdoor learning celebrations, clubs and trips to enrich our curriculum.  We want the learning gained from this enrichment to be invaluable as to how our children develop understanding about the world in which we live and how it can help learning inside the classroom become more tangible.  We want to prepare all our children for the next stages in their educational careers as well as allow them to develop their aspirations for adult life.

Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)

At Collierley Nursery and Primary School we believe that inclusive education means providing all pupils with appropriate education and support alongside their peers. The Curriculum is all the planned activities that the school organises in order to promote learning, personal growth and development. Further information can be found in the SEN Information Report.
